Responsible Tourism

Climate Care

In order to discover the beautiful regions we feature air travel is necessary from a practical perspective. We would sensitively encourage all of our guests to repair the damage that air travel does to the climate and you may wish to consider reducing your environmental footprint by offsetting greenhouse gas emissions produced as a result of your holiday through Climate Care.

The Climate Care concept is simple: you can neutralise the negative environmental impact of your activities by asking Climate Care to calculate how much CO2 will be emitted by these activities and contributing to offset the emissions.

Funds that Climate Care raises in this way are used to aid projects based around renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and, to a lesser degree, reforestation - funding only those projects that are in addition to governmental strategies.

Approximate charges for our routes vary between £3.40 to £5 per person for a return flight.

Responsible Tourism

Although we are a small company, we take our responsibility to protect the environment and promoting Responsible Tourism seriously and believe they are core values to our philosophy. Very simply, we look at this is two separate ways:

  • Protecting the environment
  • Protecting the social, cultural and economic aspects of the areas that our guests visit

We aim to maximise the benefits of tourism to each destination whilst minimising the environmental impact.

All guests are given information about responsible tourism before they travel as we believe that you have as important a role as us.

THE ENVIRONMENT

  • We encourage all of our property owners to minimise their impact on the environment by adopting an environmental policy to cover laundry, lighting, energy conservation etc.
  • All guests are given details of walks within the areas they are visiting which as well as providing a fascinating insight to our regions, encourages a more environmentally friendly approach to travel.
  • We encourage all of our guests to repair the damage that air travel does to the climate.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS

  • The vast majority of properties and transport companies within our portfolio are family owned and run. We know that this means that we benefit the local economy of the regions that we offer.
  • Additionally, our guests can be a real help to local communities by providing both income and positive cultural exchanges.
  • Prior to departure, all guests receive information regarding the area that they are going to visit including culture, history, etiquette and customs, religion and language to enhance their holiday. We believe passionately that our holidays should provide more than just a flavour of local culture and should be of signifcant benefit to the local community.
  • Our team overseas employs a majority of local people. Additional members consist almost exclusively of knowledgeable persons who are already resident in either Turkey or Greece and have a thorough understanding and love of the local culture, rather than people who travel from the UK simply for the summer season.

This ensures that not only are we providing employment and income from the tourist industry, our team have the opportunity to pass on their expert knowledge and advice regarding the country they live in.
  • We actively promote long term relationships with our property owners and suppliers. In this way we know that we are providing long-term investments in our destinations.

OUR UK OFFICE
We aim to lead by example and therefore adopt the following policies in our UK office:

  • The Exclusive Escapes brochure has been designed with a view to presenting our portfolio in a manner which makes it easy to select the properties and regions best suited to your specific requirements, without having to cerate a 300 page telephone directory!

The result is that without losing any of our qualities we now use over 50% less paper than in previous years.
  • Recycle all paper, cardboard, plastic, printer cartridges etc.
  • Discourage the use of plastic cups, paper towels etc which contribute to excess waste. We have also minimised the amount of paper records we keep.
  • Use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
  • Buy fair trade tea and coffee.
  • We do not use air conditioning in our offices, preferring instead to use the more traditional method of opening our windows for fresh air.
  • Our offices have a large amount of natural light and we are lucky enough to be able to work for much of the time with the need for additional lighting. All computers, printers, and other electrical items are switched off at the end of every day.
  • Business air travel emissions are offset with a financial contribution to Climate Care to ensure that all flights taken on behalf of our company are carbon neutral.
  • We encourage our team to use public transport or cycle to work (the majority do).
  • All unwanted office furniture, equipment and mobile phone handsets are donated to charitable organisations

We regularly review our guidelines and policies and actively seek to encourage responsible tourism.
