Our Exclusive Experiences

Overland & Overnight

A Full Taste of Ephesus

Price: 185.00

Wednesday: 07:00 – Thursday 19:30 (overnight)

Ephesus is a hugely impressive site with a considerable amount to take in. For this reason our specialised trip allows considerable time to explore the site. As much as is practical we have planned your visit to avoid the tourist hordes that do undoubtedly descend at certain times of the day!

Wednesday
Depart early for a breakfast liaison in Akyaka with fellow Exclusive Escapes guests travelling from differing regions (maximum ten). You arrive at Ephesus at lunch time after which the exploration begins.

The afternoon starts with a visit to the House of the Virgin Mary, where it is believed she resided following the crucifixion. The remainder of the afternoon is spent visiting the Museum of Ephesus and The Basilica of St. John.

In keeping with the style and quality of this trip the evening is spent in the ‘Ghost Village’ of Sirince. Similar in character to Kayaköy (near Fethiye) this fascinating village is home to a small boutique hotel of quality restored from the ruins of the old village. Here the party enjoys an evening meal and resides overnight.

Thursday
A relatively early start is arranged in order to beat the heat and the crowds. Ephesus is considered to be the open air museum of Turkey with its huge size and well preserved ruins which come mainly from the Roman era. The Agora, Odeon, Temple of Hadrian, Celsius Library and the fabulous 25,000 seat amphitheatre all demand exploration and explanation.

Archaeological work has been carried out for over one hundred years however only approximately one fifth of the site has been excavated, which provides some idea of the extent of this vast wonder!

After leaving Ephesus, lunch is provided in a peaceful garden at the local carpet weavers association. After lunch those who may be interested can watch an informative demonstration of the art of carpet weaving and its place in Turkish culture. At its conclusion the journey home begins.
