Exclusive Boutique Hotels Deniz Feneri Lighthouse, Kaş
Exclusive Escapes is delighted to present what is widely recognised as the premier hotel on the Kaş Peninsula, Deniz Feneri Lighthouse. With fresh attractive architecture, a drop-dead gorgeous waterfront location and outstanding cuisine, you’ll find this as close to nirvana as it comes.
The beautiful Kaş Peninsula - surrounded by shimmering sea – juts out to the south of the coastline running east from Kalkan to Kaş. Set apart from Kaş town, the Peninsula retains the same laid-back ambience yet benefits from the cooling sea breezes of the Mediterranean.
Deniz Feneri Lighthouse was painstakingly built over five years and opened in May 2007 to wide acclaim – it was definitely worth the wait. The 27-bedroom water front hotel has sweeping coastal views and some awe-inspiring sunsets which reflect off the water. It has an intricate design of natural stone buildings with paths leading from the reception area through a series of pretty terraces - past several pools, garden terraces and impressive palm trees - to either the Waterfront Suites above or to the extensive private waterfront below.
At a glance, the cool combination of natural stone with red roof tiles creates the impression of a mediaeval-style village – but Deniz Feneri is rather more up to the minute that that. Thanks to the considerable efforts of owners Gillian and Ozan, the contemporary boutique hotel offers one of the finest places to relax and unwind in coastal Turkey. With a quality of service to match.
The extensive waterfront is the focal point of the hotel with idyllic terraces carved into the rocks allowing you to while away the hours by the sea shore. At intervals there are steps leading down into the sea for a cooling dip. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to swim with the loggerhead turtles which are frequently spotted here. Guests are able to make use of the complimentary sea kayaks and snorkels to explore the Bay.
Drinks and snacks are provided from the waterfront bar, and several times a week guests are invited to take dinner at the waterfront itself. The rock terraces transform into an intimate candlelit setting for an incredibly romantic evening set against a backdrop of stars. Massages by the sea are also a speciality – what could be more relaxing than an aromatherapy treatment accompanied by the sound of gently lapping waves.
For those who prefer freshwater swimming, the hotel pool is surrounded by wooden loungers and parasols and an endless supply of fluffy towels. A few metres away is the Terrace Restaurant which has both al fresco and indoor eating areas. The quality of dining at Deniz Feneri is exceptional, with many classic Turkish dishes inspired by Ozam who was formerly a restaurateur in Kalkan. He is aided by a dedicated bread and pastry chef producing some of the most delicious deserts we have ever tasted. The Sunset Café bar located next to the restaurant ensures nobody every goes thirsty, and there is often tasteful live music for guests to enjoy by nightfall.
The hotel spa is another highlight, with the chance to enjoy your very own Turkish Bath with our compliments while staying here. It is certainly an experience not to be missed, and a traditional soap and scrub in the beautiful Turkish Hamam does wonders to help retain a long-lasting tan. The beauty centre offers a range of treatments using Guinot products, with therapists who have been trained to professional UK standards. Guests are also welcome to use the sauna whenever they wish.
There is a small children’s pool with the benefit of a sun shade, and children (and adults alike!) will have fun in the games room. Here you’ll find various board games, satellite television, DVDs and a Playstation.
Otherwise you may just prefer to hide away in one of many nooks and cranny's throughout the grounds that you can disappear into – enjoying the stunning beauty of those endless views.
Getting out and about has been made easy with the regular shuttle service into Kaş Harbour, around 10 minutes away. The old town of Kaş retains much of its original Turkish charm, with pretty winding streets dotted with ancient sarcophagi, a traditional tea garden and harbourside cafés. There are also several good restaurants and tasteful bars for nights’ out.
In our view, this is one of the finest sea-front properties in coastal Turkey – providing the opportunity to discover the authentic Turkish feel of Kaş from the stylish oasis of calm that is Deniz Feneri Lighthouse.
The Rooms:
Despite the considerable space afforded by the hillside and waterfront setting, Deniz Feneri Lighthouse has only 27 rooms. Each are tastefully designed with a clean and minimalist feel, and without exception they all take full advantage of the location by providing some variant of those glorious sea views.
Owner's Recommendation
Those rooms especially preferred by the owners, together with any special comments are highlighted within the 'View Your Room' description for each room (*an asterix denotes particular favourites).
All rooms:
Prices for all room types include bed and breakfast. Each room has a shower/WC, air-conditioning, mini-bar, direct dial telephones, safety deposit box and hair dryer.
Hotel Rooms (6 rooms - sleeping 1-2 guests)
Eminently comfortable, these rooms differ in design from each other and are a little smaller than the Lighthouse Rooms. Each has en suite shower/WC and a furnished private balcony with sea views.
Two of these rooms are located on the hillside beneath the ‘Waterfront Suites’.
Lighthouse Rooms (7 rooms - sleeping 1-3 guests)
Similar in design, all the spacious rooms have a queensize bed (if double), divan seating area (suitable for a child or small adult to sleep on) and a wonderful picture window that ensures guests have a glorious sea view no matter which room is chosen. A doorway leads into the en suite shower/WC. Outside is a furnished private balcony with glorious sea views.
Lighthouse Deluxe (10 rooms - sleeping 1-3 guests)
The bedroom is similar in design and size to the ‘Lighthouse Rooms’. However the bathroom is considerably larger and includes a shower/WC and separate bath. A huge picture window is adjacent to the bath, affording wonderful sea views. Outside is a furnished private balcony with glorious sea views.
Two of these rooms are located on the hillside beneath the 'Waterfront Suites’ and have a differing layout.
Sunset Suite (1 room - sleeping 1-3 guests)
The design is similar to a ‘Lighthouse Deluxe Room’ with the addition of a sitting room with double sofa bed. This room has spectacular views from the sitting room over the swimming pool to sea, and from the balcony over the Hamam to sea.
Waterfront Suites (3 one-bedroom villas - sleeping 1-4 guests)
The truly wonderful Waterfront Suites are, in our opinion, amongst the most luxurious and best located to be found on the coast of Turkey - described by one guest as ‘akin to holidaying in the middle of a Bond movie’!
Each suite is located on the hillside between the main hotel and the waterfront, and each is housed in a self-contained circular three-storey building (the ground floor being hotel rooms). Entrance to the suite is on the first floor into a small raised area which houses the mini-bar and drinks cabinet. A few steps lead down into the fabulous sitting room which is dominated by the high-domed ceiling and striking windows that rise from floor to ceiling. The sitting room has a specially designed sofabed whch can be made up as a double or twin. French windows open onto the spacious furnished private terrace with superb sea views.
Circular steps lead around the interior, past the shower/WC which is on a mezzanine level, and then up to the ‘honeymoon’ bedroom. This galleried room looks down on the sitting room, and has fabulous sea views from the kingsize bed. Another striking feature is the bridge that crosses the sitting room and leads from the bedroom to a private balcony – which of course provides stunning sea views!
Special note for Friends & Families:
The ‘Waterfront Suites’ are ideal for friends and family if taken in combination with the one or two ‘Lighthouse’ or ‘Lighthouse Deluxe’ rooms on the ground floor below. Likewise as the ‘Lighthouse’ and ‘Lighthouse Deluxe’ rooms are set on differing levels on the hillside it is possible to create combinations of adjacent rooms.
