Exclusive Boutique Hotels The Dionysos Estate, Kumlubük near Turunç Bay, The Bozburun Peninsula

The Dionysos Olive Harvest, 16 & 23 October 2010

The super-stylish Dionysos Estate has everything at its fingertips – a private beach club with an array of water sports, a Decléor spa with open-air hot tubs and an organic farm supplying the hotel’s three gourmet restaurants. Yet it is the stunning location alone that will take your breath away…

Built on top of a jaw-dropping canyon overlooking the Bay of Kumlubük, there are panoramic sea views from virtually every perspective.  The golden coloured escarpment which rises from the sea forms a mountainside peppered with pine and incense trees, which gives way to a dense forest that reaches up to the sky.  Everything within this forms the Dionysos Estate - and is yours to enjoy.

The buildings blend naturally with their surroundings and are spread-out in village-style across the Estate, with a choice of rooms, cottage suites and (two-bedroom) private pool suites. Viewed from the sea, the hotel appears to have belonged here for centuries – in fact, the owners, Ahmet and Rim, laid the first foundations around 10 years ago.  Having lovingly built such a remarkable hotel their aim now is to continually refine and improve the Dionysos offering to share with you.

This year the Dionysos' own organic farm which supplies the hotel’s three restaurants has been re-planted with Turkish seeds of origin, so that only the finest fruit, vegetables and herbs are used in the hotel kitchens.  Once a week there is a farm picnic, where you can see produce being taken directly from the ground to the table, help collect chicken’s eggs, see the cows being milked and view the Dionysos cheese production.

Elsewhere on the Estate, take a peek at the young vineyard which will start producing wine in 2011 or you are welcome to pick fruit from the orchard trees – but having tasted a Dionysos watermelon or pomegranate, the supermarket varieties will never be the same again!

The Estate produces an award-winning, extra virgin olive oil and every October you are invited to join the olive harvest for a hands-on week working alongside locals to pick and press the ripe fruit.  Organised olive oil tastings also run throughout the year, enabling you to return home with a fine appreciation of the green stuff.  You are welcome to wander through the orchards, discover the hot springs in the grounds, or enjoy longer walks along the many forest tracks leading through the Estate.

At the heart of the Dionysos is the impossibly beautiful infinity pool which seems literally to extend into the sea and beyond the horizon.  This enormous freshwater pool is surrounded by wooden loungers and parasols and the adjacent bar ensures that nobody ever goes thirsty.  Pamper yourself at the spa which offers a range of specialist Decléor treatments, or simply relax in the hot tubs or hammocks and enjoy that view.

A short stroll or a hop on the regular shuttle takes you down to the private beach club in the bay, where more wooden loungers, a restaurant and bar lend themselves to serious relaxation in the most sophisticated of settings.  Take a plunge in the cooling sea, or try the array of water sports at the far end of the jetty.  If sailing is your thing, spend a day at sea on either the Dionysos’ own Catamaran or enjoy the more sedate, romantic experience of the Gentleman’s Boat (one of which is included with your stay).

The active may prefer a work-out on the Dionysos tennis court or gym. Alternatively, to trek, run or take a mountain bike to explore the surrounding mountain paths is an exhilarating experience and one, we strongly recommended.

Needless to say the hotel is a gourmet’s delight, with a choice of dining experiences including Waterside, Mediterranean or a Taste of Turkey. Naturally each uses only the freshest of ingredients, with the majority sourced from the Estate’s organic farm and dairy.  By nightfall, the softly lit bar area provides an intimate, relaxed ambience with wine tastings held most weeks. There is also a library / billiards room and a home cinema with film screenings for both adults and children.

In our opinion, the Dionysos Estate is one of the finest hotels on the entire Mediterranean, with a quality of service that is second to none. Come and discover it for yourself.
