The Dionysos Olive Harvest - 16 & 23 October 2010

JOIN THE DIONYSOS OLIVE HARVEST
Follow the journey of olives from tree to table, and experience the harvest first-hand.

With its reputation as a foodie haven growing and a plethora of awards for its home-grown olive oil, the super-elegant Dionysos is offering families and adults alike the chance to participate in a traditional Turkish olive harvest on the hotel’s organic estate this autumn.

With its widespread grounds, farmland and extensive facilities, the Dionysos provides the perfect environment for this fun yet educational week. The gourmet break - introduced in 2009 with superb feedback - combines participating in the olive harvest and learning about its age-old traditions, while enjoying the 21st Century home comforts of an outstanding boutique hotel.

Guests can get involved with the olive harvest as much or as little as they wish, including working along side the local farmers should they choose!  There will be a number of informal organised activities ranging from getting your hands dirty in amongst the olive groves, through to experiencing the olive pressing and sophisticated olive oil tastings by nightfall.

Of course being the Dionysos, this isn’t just any olive oil….. Ahmet and his team have recently been awarded one of the highest accolades in Turkey for the quality and flavour of their estate-produced olive oil.  It is sourced from a grove of 1500 olive trees spread across the hotel’s organic farmland, which also supplies 70% of the produce served in the hotel’s three restaurants.

Organised olive oil tastings will help guests to become connoisseurs and recognise the scent, texture and flavour of different international olive oils.  Gourmet creations will show how to prepare special olive-based dishes and demonstrate the different ways olive oil can be used in cookery.  And to celebrate the harvest, there will be a host of seasonal dishes which mark the importance of this special time of year.

Those who wish can also spend time at the organic farm, visiting the fruit orchards and seeing how the local vegetables and herbs are grown, as well as gaining an understanding of how milk, cheese and butter is sourced from the land.

There is no pressure to participate and plenty of diversions for those simply looking to relax and unwind. The exceptional facilities at the Dionysos include a large infinity pool overlooking the sea, a Decélor spa and beauty centre (complete with open air hot tubs) and a private beach club(with water sports), just a short stroll down the mountainside.  There are also shady gardens peppered with hammocks, a tennis court and an air-conditioned gym.
