Why Cephalonia?

Variety is the simple answer. Within relatively short distances the landscape alters dramatically, with each region demanding exploration. The picture postcard villages and harbours are full of character, the beaches stunning, the walking wonderful, and the history fascinating.

It goes without saying that we have focussed on regions where our guests are sure to escape the beaten path, regions that are certain to never feature within the pages of a mass-market brochure.

The scenically stunning Erissos peninsula to the north where the beautiful harbour of Fiscardo along with the delightfully authentic and sleepy village of Assos are to be found.

Stunning beaches include those at Myrtos (near Assos), sweeping and sandy at Trapezaki and the wonderful golden sands of the south.

The Erissos peninsula in the north is home to many pretty and small pebble coves and inlets, many of which are accessible only by boat. We therefore include special pre-booked rates for motor boats which allow guests to explore the coastline and discover its many, many bays which are often completely deserted.

Cephalonia also provides places of interest such as Argostoli, the bustling capital of the island, Venetian fortresses, Byzantine remains, Mycenaean tombs, Roman mosaics, the aquamarine waters of the underground lake in Melissani cave, the stalactites and stalagmites of the cave of Drogarati together with the most stunning mountain and coastal scenery.

Despite all of this, the main reason for choosing our ‘Hidden Cephalonia’ has to be the escapism provided by the simple and authentic tranquillity of our featured regions.

New for 2010 - the picturesque and little-known island of Ithaca

Ithaca (Ithaki) is smaller than many of the Greek islands, and slightly more difficult to reach. For that reason, it has escaped the mass tourism of some of the other islands, and it’s this that makes it the perfect escape.

Its charm is inescapable and its sleepy way of life endearing. Whatever you do, wherever you go, everything about this magical island is laid back and relaxed, and Ithaca’s friendly people will do their best to make you feel welcome – it’s no coincidence that many visitors return year after year.

The scenery is breathtaking – with beautiful remote mountain villages, olive groves beneath rocky mountains, fertile green valleys, and crystal-clear waters that lap the pebble coves on the coast. There are also stunning views out to sea and the surrounding islands, including Cephalonia, as well as to the distant mainland beyond.

Ithaca really is a magical place. So, if you’re looking for spectacular views and excellent walking, a gentle boat trip or a secluded beach, the buzz of experiencing an Ithacan festival, or the peace and quiet of a sleepy village square, then look no further.
