I meant to go to the Lycian coast in the south-west of Turkey 40 years ago but – since I was hitchhiking on a shoestring budget – got only as far as Istanbul. That first glimpse of Ottoman splendour did initiate a growing love of the country, yet despite several visits since, I never made it to the region by the Mediterranean they also call the Turquoise Coast. But finally I decided to make my dream real and booked a house on the Bozburun Peninsula.
