Kaş

About Kaş

The most picturesque of Mediterranean harbour towns with a real Turkish flavour...

Intro b

This beautiful natural harbour town is framed by the dramatic Taurus Mountains and is located a twenty-five-minute drive from Kalkan along a spectacularly beautiful coastal road. The winding cobbled streets, colourful local shops and local market place all combine to provide a real Turkish flavour.

Naturally, the harbour is the focal point of the town, with local çay (tea) gardens providing delightful shady spots in which to relax and soak up the atmosphere prior to exploring the labyrinth of narrow streets that meander through the old town.

Kaş means ‘eyebrow’ and it gets this name because the town is set in a curved bay that’s shaped like an eyebrow. Much of Kaş’s past is still in evidence. In fact, if you stroll around the town, you’ll come across an ancient sarcophagus at the top of a street of small shops (see image above), and the bay itself is backed by high cliffs that are dotted with rock tombs.

The town extends out onto the Çukurbaş peninsula, and stretches toward the Greek islands, the closest being Castellorizo (‘Meis’ in Turkish). Our property - Deniz Feneri Lighthouse - is located on the peninsula enjoying an idyllic waterside location with truly glorious vistas.

However, Kaş offers more than just a beach holiday. Steeped in culture, the region affords many opportunities for exploration of numerous cultural sites together with the surrounding dramatic mountain ranges. In addition, sporting enthusiasts are well catered for as Kaş is a centre for outdoor sports and provides a range of activities including paragliding, trekking, canyoning, sea kayaking and scuba diving.

In short, this region has something for everyone!

Dining in Kaş

Kaş provides many opportunities for eating out – whether you want to dine well in a harbourside restaurant, tuck yourself away in a romantic hidden courtyard, or enjoy the buzz of one of the marketside lokantas (cafés). Whilst Kaş isn’t an overly-commerical town, you can also choose to dip into its relaxed nightlife – with some of the bars staying open deep into the night.

Beaches & Beach Clubs

There are plenty of swimming opportunities in this area. Exclusive Escapes Guests are able to enjoy the fantastic private waterside setting of the Deniz Feneri Lighthouse Beach Club. In addition, the town has two pebble beaches, and the peninsula has various platforms and pebble beaches, which provide good spots from which to swim.

Kaputaş Beach
There are several stunning beaches in the area, with the dramatic Kaputaş beach a twenty-minute dolmuş or taxi ride towards Kalkan. It is a beautiful sandy beach found at the foot of a ravine down many, many steps!

Patara Beach - the longest beach in the mediterranean
Further afield but certainly worth a visit is the glorious 18-kilometre-long sandy Patara Beach. Patara lies to the west of Kalkan and with the new road is now easily accessible by car or taxi in just 40-minutes. Patara is a stunning and undeveloped eighteen-kilometre stretch of soft golden sand, where the evocative ruins of a once-fine city protrude from the sand dunes. Patara is so outstanding that it’s regularly featured as one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful and undiscovered beaches.

The Deniz Feneri Lighthouse Private Waterfront
The private waterfront runs for 150 metres and is dotted with shaded platforms with sun beds hidden away in the rocks with steps leading into the sea at various points. A beach bar and waterside restaurant are set in the rocks and serve drinks and snacks throughout the day to ensure guests don’t have to climb up the hill too often – indeed the subtle service comes right to your sun bed, if required! If you can stir yourself from this paradise, a variety of water sports are available. Discover more »
