Gulf of Fethiye

About The Gulf of Fethiye

Breathtaking mountains and beaches, cosmopolitan ports, rustic villages and the scattered islands of the Gulf all combine to provide some of Turkey’s most impressive coastal scenery.

Intro b

This region is the heart of ancient Lycia and host to a number of historic sites, including Kadyanda, Kaunos, Tlos, Pinara, Letoon, Xanthos and Patara. The Gulf also boasts plenty of beautiful scenery to explore – including the dramatic beaches of the Fethiye Peninsula, the market town of Fethiye itself, the fascinating ruins of the old Greek settlement at Kayaköy, and of course the mountain ranges themselves.

Dramatic mountains, stunning beaches, cosmopolitan ports, rustic villages and the wonderful islands of the Gulf all provide a snapshot of the diversity that makes Turkey, and in particular the Lycian Coast, so special.

Beaches in the Region

The Fethiye region is home to some of Turkey's most spectacular beaches - all well worth exploring.

Ölü Deniz Beach & Lagoon
Home to the most photographed and famous beach in Turkey. Needless to say, it does get busy during peak season and in recent years it has become more mainstream. Despite this, the turquoise lagoon waters and fringes of sand are beautiful and well worth a visit. There are two beaches: the main beach is free of charge but has sun loungers and umbrellas for daily hire; the lagoon beach has an entrance fee.
Kıdrak Beach
A 15-minute walk along the dramatic coastal road in the other direction leads to one of our favourite beaches in the region at Kidrak This beautiful beach - at the edge of a pine forest - remains predominantly peaceful throughout the summer and can be enjoyed at your leisure.
Butterfly Valley
The village of Faralya is perched on the mountainside overlooking Butterfly Valley, one of Turkey’s most stunning bays. The location is so dramatic that the safest way to access this beach is from the sea. Boats can be arranged from Ölü Deniz.
Kabak
The most picturesque of bays, Kabak is wonderfully remote and sits far below the trail of The Lycian Way, beyond Faralya. The beach can reached by boat (if resident at the hotel) or by road.
Gemiler Beach
This is a peaceful shingle beach, flanked with pine forests on both sides It lies six kilometres beyond Kayaköy, along a dirt track. You can happily spend a few hours snorkelling and swimming around the rocky coves of the bay and relaxing in one of the local cafes.
