May 12, 2012 - Turkish delight: Stepping back in time on the charming Lycian coast

I meant to go to the Lycian coast in the south-west of Turkey 40 years ago but – since I was hitchhiking on a shoestring budget – got only as far as Istanbul. That first glimpse of Ottoman splendour did initiate a growing love of the country, yet despite several visits since, I never made it to the region by the Mediterranean they also call the Turquoise Coast. But finally I decided to make my dream real and booked a house on the Bozburun Peninsula.

January 12, 2012 - Website Of The Week

ll too often, holiday companies expect us to cough up hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds, on the basis of a few grainy photos and some cliché-ridden prose in a brochure, or more often these days, on the internet.

May 5, 2010 - Turkey's Dalyan Delta: Where luxury embraces a slower pace of life on the Turquoise Coast

The locals call it 'the flying house'. Well, it doesn't fly, but sheltered by an imposing cliff face in the lush farmland of the Dalyan Delta, this angular, modern house certainly cuts a dash. We are in Turkey at the beautiful, bewinged Beyaz Galeri Ev, a five-minute drive from Dalyan on the Turquoise Coast. The villa has a circular outdoor pool, art-filled living room, a Bose sound system and a kitchen Sophie Dahl would be proud of.

October 31, 2009 - Set sail for coves and castles in a gulet cruise around Turkey's coast

Huge white sheets are careering across the boat, catching a gust here, a ripple there and flapping with purpose. Ropes are tugged with gusto, sails pulled taut, the wheel spun. All hands are on deck and working feverishly - except mine, of course. I'm clambering to find the right spot for horizon watching, sunbathing and seabreezing. And I won't need to move until sundown. This is sailing as I had always intended.

June 23, 2008 - Turquoise delights on the Lycian coast

National stereotypes often turn out to be true. Germans do get up at dawn to bag the best poolside sunbeds, Americans do talk too loudly and wear neon nylon, and the Dutch do have a penchant for invading campsites en masse and running around naked. And the Turks? They're unfriendly and serve up inedible food. Well, I go along with all of those - except the one about the Turks. It couldn't be more wrong.

June 18, 2007 - My little beach babe

Hotel Deniz Feneri Lighthouse is the perfect retreat for new mums

When you have a new baby, there comes a point when your sanity hangs by a thread so fragile you begin to fantasise about checking yourself into the Priory just to get a decent night's sleep.

February 18, 2008 - A two-paced tour of Turkey

How often can any of us say, at the end of a break, that it was the holiday of a lifetime? How often was it a thing of beauty and endless memories, even without the happy snaps; an experience that opened our eyes and our hearts; a time when love grew stronger?

August 20, 2007 - A blast through the Turkish past

Holidays, in my opinion, need a theme. So when I went to Turkey earlier this year, I decided to give the trip a classical twist and explore the country's extraordinary historical ruins. On this count, Turkey certainly delivered.
