No matter how good the property looks, it's the owners who go the extra yard who make your holiday, says Liz Edwards........
Villa Selim, Turkey
Up in the forested mountains along the Lycian coast, this peaceful stone villa is only 20 minutes from the busy port of Göcek.
It sleeps up to six in two doubles and a twin. There's a fully fitted kitchen, TV, CD and DVD players, and a private pool. You also have full use of the facilities at the next-door Montenegro hotel.
The owner: Selim is passionate about the area's ecology, and can take you on treks to sleepy villages, waterfalls and other areas you wouldn't find by yourself. For £16pp he can also bring freshly prepared meals – made with local, organic produce – from the hotel.
Only a local would know: Selim always points guests towards beautiful Katranci beach, which is only accessible by sea or off-road trekking.
How much? From £2,604 for six sharing, including flights, transfers and jeep hire with Exclusive Escapes.
